Winter News

Hello dear creatures of Earth!

We Living Arrows hope this newsletter finds you in good health and cheer this holiday season.

Knowing that many loved ones may have fallen on difficulty and suffering lately, we wish to extend our deepest intentions of healing, positivity, and support to you and yours in need.

If you have the means to offer financial support at this time, here is an undeniably moving cause we would like to bring to your attention: Love For Little Levon.
Donate to the little fellow, and you get an amazing compilation of music from incredible artists such as Elephant RevivalSpirits of the Red CityShakey GravesChimney ChoirLaura Goldhamer, and many more.

This album is a compilation of songs from people who have contributed their music to help raise spirits and funds for Cagney & Jess’ baby, Levon Robbie Wenk. Cagney was diagnosed with an aggressive, stage 4 brain cancer in August, and less than a month later Jess gave birth to Levon. ALL MONEY RAISED FROM THIS COMPILATION will go to the Wenk family for the sake of Levon’s future and well being.

The majority of these songs have yet to be released, and some of these songs may never be available anywhere else. The music ranges from studio sessions to demos, and live recordings to phone recordings.

This compilation is a pure example of community and it demonstrates the strength that can coalesce when people are in need of love and compassion. Thank you to all musicians and artists who contributed their self expression to benefit Little Levon.

Levon’s father, Cagney, passed away on the 23rd. Please think about buying this amazing album to support a beautiful and suffering family.

Another opportunity to support an extremely inspirational and powerful community member in need is here.

“Our beloved friend Chiara is dedicated to the health and wellbeing of future generations and the protecton of Mother Earth. She is a fearless warrior with a big heart, and right now, she needs our help. Please share with people who have the capacity to donate and want to support her healing journey and sacred work in this time of transformation.

On their way to the Lelu Island in Tsimshian territory to stand in Solidarity with Water Protectors resisting fracking and LNG, Chiara and friends hit ice and went down a 30~foot embankment. Chiara sustained a TBI, concussion, fractured her temporal skull bone and perforated her eardrum, with 50% hearing loss. We expect a full recovery, but we also expect Chiara to be on a long road to recovery with very crucial needs in her healing process. All financial support will go to immediate needs including medical, transportation, basics and self-care. An investment in Chiara is an investment in our shared values of preserving crucial habitat, addressing climate change and organizing to amplify resistance to business as usual.”

In other news, we Living Arrows have returned from our five-week tour of Iceland, and feel very motivated and grateful and supercharged with musical energy! The January issue of Bellingham’s What’s Up! Magazine will feature a Tales From The Road article detailing the joys and misadventures of our journey, so keep your eye out…

TLA Live at Solon Bistro during Iceland Airwaves

Speaking of What’s Up Magazine, we are proud to say we have been nominated for their 2016 Music Awards. Go on over to what sup-magazine.com and vote for us on “Best Silver Platter” (for our new album Roots & Wings) and “Best Axes of Folk”!

Next item… We are very elated to announce that our upcoming plans this spring include participating in a six-week artist residency at Holden Village! The theme of the residency is Ecology, Spirituality, and Social Justice, and we look forward to spending our time in the magical Glacier Peak Wilderness arranging and preparing a whole new batch of songs for your listening pleasure.

We also will be booking a tour down the west coast during the month of July, so if there are any wonderful places between Bellingham and San Francisco that you would like to bring to our attention, please do get in touch!

While you’re on the internet, wander over to YouTube and scope out this sweet little video we made of our song, I Am Not My Thoughts.

By the way, we would also like to inform you that lyrics to all of our recorded songs are available for your perusal right here on our website! (and VERY soon, we will also have posted the lyrics to unrecorded songs you’ve fallen in love with at our live shows!)

Wellp, that was a long one.

Thanks for reading, we love you a whole lot and wish you an extremely fortunate and delightful New Year.

Welcome to the Official Occasional Newsletter of The Living Arrows!
We write you with a small handful of happy updates.

1. Shows in Bellingham!

Before we part ways for the summer, we want to see you, dance with you, and say hello/ta-ta for now! RSVP on the facebook event, or check out the event on KombuchaTown’s website! We will be joined by the delightful and talented Ruby Flambe.
If you can’t make the ta-ta for now show, don’t panic. Come down to the Alternative Library on Saturday, May 21st to see us play a sweet, sweet set with the gloriously magical Clay Hamilton, hailing all the way from Boulder, CO. Please join the fun!

We will also be making an appearance at this month’s Vaudevillingham, Bellingham’s monthly circus variety show! That’s on May 15th at 7&9pm at the Circus Guild in Fairhaven. Not an event to miss!

After this, Bellinghamsters will not be seeing us again ’til September…Which brings me to the next thing!
2. Records!

We are THIS CLOSE to being finished with our upcoming full-length album. It is already lovely beyond our wildest dreams, and we are really excited to share it with you………In September! Once we are all back in Bellingham, we will be throwing a wonderful album release concert & party. We’ll keep you posted on that as the time comes closer!

Also keep your eye out for a review of our Set You Free EP in next month’s What’s Up Magazine. We recorded and released it this past winter, and hope you’ve had a chance to give it a listen.

3. Tour!

After launching the new full length CD (as of yet unnamed!) into our Bellingham community, we will be meandering over to Colorado for a few weeks of September to sing to you folks over there. If you have a favorite venue in Colorado Springs, Denver, Boulder, or Buena Vista where you’d love us to serenade you, drop us a line! We want to sing there! (your house included!)

That is all for now, and we look forward to seeing you sooner or later!

February 2016 Newsletter

Hello dear friends and fans, near and far!

This is Alexandra, Traesti, and Loren. You might remember us as Breaking the Spell, a heartfelt folk-pop music project from the Pacific Northwest. Thanks for joining our e-mail list! We have a few announcements and some exciting news we would like to share with you… (Prizes for those who make it through to the end of this novel!)
First things first!
Those of you outside of Bellingham, WA and/or without Facebook may have missed the memo…We have undergone a name change!
Breaking the Spell was the perfectly fitting title for Traesti and Alexandra’s musical project as it began in Spring of 2014, with the recording of our first album. (Listen!) That title took us on incredible journeys around the world, and within ourselves.
This past summer, after much reflection and a multitude of inspiring synchronicities, we realized it was time to move on to our next chapter with a name change.
While Breaking the Spell symbolized new beginnings, everyday magic, and overcoming challenges internal and external, The Living Arrows has its own meaning that we hope to embody through our music and ways of life. We are really looking forward to embarking on this journey with you, and watching how everything unfolds.
Nextly!
We recently recorded a three-song ep entitled Set You Free. The release party for this lovely creation won’t be happening for awhile, but we want to share our new songs with YOU, as soon as possible…So, we will be posting it to our Bandcamp within the month, and you’ll be the first to know. So keep your ear out!
Which brings us to the next exciting thing… We are gearing up to begin recording our next full length album! We are very jazzed about this big adventure. We have welcomed a new full-time member to our live performances- a round of applause for Loren Schaumberg on electric guitar an bass! Hooray! (he’s the cheerful dude closest to you in the following photo)
We are, however, urgently seeking a drummer who could record with us, and also play live shows! Please respond to this email if you are a 21+ drummer or know someone who might be interested in this position!

Soooo:
We have two shows coming up this month before we take a wee hiatus during the recording process.
Friday, Feb. 19th – The Alternative Library – 7:30 pm – With Momo Grace
Saturday, Feb. 27th – Cafe Bouzingo – 8 pm – With Celestial Navigation
We hope to see you there, because it might be a little while til you have another chance to be serenaded!
The Living Arrows at The Bike House, February 12th 2016
If you’re out of town and want us sing you a song, this next bit of news is for you:
A fun little project we undertook last month was to record a video for the NPR Tiny Desk Contest. We performed our song, Be An Animal. Check it out here!
Last but not least, we’d like to thank all the folks who voted for us in What’s Up Magazine’s music awards- We were very stoked and honored to win in the “Axes of Folk (best songwriting)” category!
THAT’S ALL FOR NOW!
Thanks a million for all your support. We hope to see you very soon!
Love,
The Living Arrows
Traesti, Loren, and Alexandra
